Welcome to the internet home of Nick Ragheb.  Nick is a teacher, performer and researcher of music of the Near East, currently located in Austin, Texas (USA). He is a performer and teacher of the darbuka (also known as the “doumbek”) and the kenar bendir (frame drum) and a student of the Turkish ney (reed flute).  He has studied with Turkish, Egyptian, and Israeli master drummers and performs Türk Halk Müziği (“Turkish Folk Music”), Türk Sanat Müziği (“Turkish Classical Music”) and popular Arabic music. He has also participated in many innovative musical projects, combining elements of many of the World’s rich musical traditions.  In addition to his performance interests, he is also involved in ethnomusicological research with a focus on organology and Turkish percussion.
